Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA

PROVINCETOWN, MASSACHUSETTS, USA

Provincetown’s location, at the very tip of Cape Cod, has helped make the town the unique and magical destination that it is today. It truly is a world unto itself. With each passing season thousands of gay and lesbian visitors from all over the world come to enjoy a wealth of experiences seldom found elsewhere.

From Boston, Provincetown is just 2.5 hours by car, 1.5 hours by ferry or 20 minutes on a Cape Air flight. If you do come by car, you won’t need to use it again until you leave because everything in town is within walking or cycling distance.

Miles of beaches, rolling sand dunes, Cape architecture and blazing sunsets combine to make Provincetown a unique destination. Top rated gay and lesbian accommodation (for more information go to Pink Choice), vibrant night life, first class restaurants and bars, boutique shopping, world famous artists and writers, eclectic street performers and the whacky, wonderful and diverse community all come together to make Provincetown the year round haven that it is.

And there is always something to do, whatever the season.

Enjoy the romance of a Valentine's Weekend in February or the official start of summer with the Memorial holiday in May. Then in June there is the Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival and Portuguese Festival. The high summer starts with testosterone and fun over the July 4th week, continues with the spectacular Carnival Parade in August and ends with the ‘official end of summer’ over the Labor Day weekend. The Swim for Life Festival, Provincetown’s biggest AIDS fundraiser, kicks of the fall season in September, along with the Fall Arts Festival. October starts with Women’s Week, followed by the Mates Leather Weekend, Fantasia Fair, and rounds off with the annual phantasmagorical Halloween weekend. Single Men’s Weekend and Thanksgiving bookend November and December starts with the annual Christmas Stroll weekend and ends with the New Year festivities.

But if your idea of relaxing includes having your feet up reading a good book, cycling the bike trails, taking a whale watching trip, deep sea fishing, strolling the miles of unspoiled sandy beaches, climbing the Pilgrim Monument, or just people watching from a table in a street café on Commercial Street, then there is something here for everyone.

Provincetown is the perfect getaway; casual, bohemian, vibrant, exciting, safe, secure and peaceful. You owe it to yourself to experience the magic that is Provincetown, at least once. After that, you’ll keep coming back.

New Paul Edmonds salon - opening January 2008

Paul Edmonds is opening a new salon across the road from his existing Knightsbridge salon, scheduled for 29th January 2008.  He is eight times nominee for British Hairdresser of the Year, resident hairdresser for the BBC’s celebrated show What Not To Wear and also assists on Strictly Come Dancing

The Paul Edmonds holistic and creative approach to hair and beauty is the key drive behind the salon philosophy: cuts and colour from the Colour Pharmacy that complement the face, body and lifestyle; and a comprehensive range of treatments to rejuvenate and care for the entire face and body. Regular clients include Billie Piper, Emma Thompson, Natalie Imbruglia, Kiera Knightly, Mica Paris, Lisa Butcher, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Colin Firth.

Paul Edmonds started his career in hairdressing in 1973 and worked as Artistic Director at Daniel Galvin and Neville Daniel prior to opening his first salon in 1984 in Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge.  Paul moved to his current Brompton Road salon in 1997; a contemporary space with a calm, friendly approach and loyal clientele.

Lady Lloyd to Launch Leeds' Latest Gay Night...

1023lloydblasphemy2_2
Drag Superstar Lady Lloyd is coming to Leeds to launch the city’s newest gay night.

That's right, the Gender Bending DJ will be opening Blasphemy at Religion nightclub on Wednesday the 28th November.

Lady Lloyd became a London icon by ditching drag’s tacky image and turning it into a fashion statement, revolutionising it by replacing sequined outfits with chic designer dresses. She’s already a huge name on the capital’s queer clubbing circuit, where she hosts and runs cult gay nights like Tranny Shack and Popstarz.

"Blasphemy will bring eye-linered emos, skinny indie boys, fashionistas, hardcore clubbers, trannies and super trendy guys together under one roof on a monthly basis," says organiser Liam Keogh, "‘The Leeds gay scene doesn’t have much excitement to offer anymore; it just churns out the same nights week in week out. We want to bring the coolest elements of the capital’s gay scene to Leeds, to create events that can be looked forward to every month."

With Federation having gone weekly, Blasphemy will be the only monthly gay clubbing experience in Leeds.

Aimed at a cocksure crowd of 18+ gay boys and queer girls, Blasphemy promises to put some glamorous decadence and sinful excess back into the city’s gay scene.

Set in the super plush surroundings of Religion nightclub on Lower Briggate, Blasphemy will play a beat-grinding mix of house, pop, electro and new wave.

Entry costs a fiver at the door, which opens at 10pm. Coming soon - visit www.blasphemyleeds.co.uk for more info.

Drugfucked: new campaign on gay men, sex and drugs

Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) has launched a new service called 'drugfucked'.

Aimed at gay men who use recreational drugs, drugfucked offers counselling, outreach work and a series of information booklets.

Drugfucked_3 Drugs oftern make men take more risks with their secual health, some drugs like ecstasy and cocaine can lower inhibitions making unsafe sex more likely.

Drugfucked looks at the impact of using different drugs when having sex through a series of 12 booklets, each focusing on a different recreational drug - ecstasy, ketamine, poppers, GHB, alcohol, acid, speed, cocaine, crystal meth, viagra, steroids, and cannabis.

The booklets also explain how to stay safe and avoid getting or passing on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

THT acting deputy head Marc Thompson said: "It's a fact that many gay men take drugs so we wanted to provide information that gives the facts as clearly as possible.

"As well as the booklets, THT also has a new drugs specialist in the LADS Outreach team who will be working in gay venues to offer information and advice to gay men who have questions about drugs, HIV and sex."

For more information visit www.tht.org.uk or click here to download/order the booklets.
